Olivier studied electrical engineering and obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Engineering, Mons (Belgium). He then embarked on an academic journey as a Professor of signal processing and machine learning in France before joining DeepMind in 2016 as a research scientist. He was the first hire of Google Brain in France where he led research in reinforcement learning and speech processing. He now serves as director of reinforcement learning and interaction research at Cohere. Olivier loves cats and dogs, when he doesn't work he enjoys contemplating the North Sea and walking on the white sand beaches of Belgian's shore.
